In this workshop, travel writer Thomas Swick will cover the three steps in writing a travel story: research before the trip, legwork while on site, and writing when back home. He will discuss not only what to read in preparation, but what to watch and listen to. He will talk about ways to observe your surroundings once you’re there, and give tips on meeting people, so you can go beyond observation and get beneath the surface of the place. And he will show how to use personal voice, point of view, narrative flow, imagination, humor and insight to create an evocative travel story.
